At a very young age, I knew I loved animals and wanted to care for them. Whether it is the pet of a friend or relative, or a stray on the street, I always made it a priority to see the animal had everything it needed: food, shelter, and love. In 1999 I was fortunate enough to get a job working with animals. It paid the bills, but better yet I was doing something I truly enjoyed. I began working as a professional pet groomer and animal technician, working at animal grooming and boarding facilities. This let me experience the responsibilities of caring for the health and wellbeing of different types of animals.
During this time, I learned about animal nutrition and behavior, the different types of pet breeds and the haircuts each one required, and the distinct personality traits they possessed. Meticulous administering and recording of special diets and medication was crucial for each pet, because it could be life or death for them. Giving them love and attention was very important as well, because mental stimulation directly affects their physical health.
In 2005 I began to do a little pet sitting on the side because it didn’t interfere with my pet grooming hours. After a couple years, I thought I might be able to start a pet sitting company of my own, and not have to work for someone else. The freedom of being my own boss was very appealing. Once again, I found myself utilizing my deep love of animals to create a career path for myself. It doesn’t get much better than that!
The fact that Austin, Texas is such an animal friendly city was the perfect canvas to paint my future on. In 2007, I created my first website for Cedar Park Pet Sitting. The business took off quickly. I believe the biggest contributor to that success was “old fashioned hard work” each day, all day. It wasn’t long before I had to hire help. As of today, I have a loyal clientele and a qualified group of vetted sitters to care for fur babies of all types as if they were their own.
